The World Poker Tour has announced the creation of the WPT Alpha8, an all-new, global series of super high-roller poker tournaments to be broadcast on the soon-to-be launched FOX Sports 1, beginning in March 2014. What’s more, PokerNews’ own Lynn Gilmartin has been named as the show’s anchor.

You may wonder How the heck do they keep making more poker TV shows?! The reason is relatively low production costs and the key factor of built-in sponsors. WPT Alpha8's marquee sponsor is ClubWPT.com, a subscription based "freeroll" poker game which awards small cash prizes.
The series will also host tournaments of at least a $100,000 buy-in in North America, Europe, Asia and South Africa throughout the year. The first live event is August 26th, 2013 at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open—WPT Alpha8 Florida—at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Fox Sports 1 is a new channel set to debut in August across the US. Their programming will also include UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Major League Baseball, Big East basketball, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Mixed Martial Arts and other original programming including poker.
“Showcasing the world’s poker elite and featuring multimillion dollar prize pools, Alpha8 represents the highest televised treatment of super high roller tournament poker to date.
Playing out over a global stage, this series will give audiences insight into the intensity and skill demanded at the sport’s highest levels.” — WPT President Adam Pliska
