Living up to the reputation that goes with the name, Hard Rock threw a memorable party to mark the grand opening of their new casino in Metro Vancouver.
Hard Rock Casino Vancouver is a rebranding and multi-million dollar renovation of Boulevard Casino in Coquitlam, BC. The result is an entertainment destination that offers “everything you go out for.” They feature the best live music acts, their famous displays of rock memorabilia, comedy and performance arts, delicious food from seven different restaurants within the property, signature drinks, and plenty of gaming.
Friday, December 20th, marked the grand opening of Hard Rock Casino Vancouver. At 5:00, under a dark winter sky, fireworks erupted above the casino to signal the opening of the doors. And in place of a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, Vancouver’s Bif Naked smashed a guitar to celebrate the opening instead.
Once inside, Hard Rock had plenty to offer to keep guests entertained. Rock Demarco, the fastest performance painter in the world, demonstrated some of his skills by painting portraits of rock legends in mere minutes. Various acrobatics could be found throughout the casino floor (and ceiling), and food and drinks warmed everyone’s bellies.
One of the casino’s many restaurants, Asylum, features a stage of its own, and the BC rock group 54-40 performed a free show for the guests. The headlining show took place in The Theatre, the controversially renamed Red Robinson Show Theatre, and featured Vancouver’s Hedley. They performed for a sold-out crowd in the 1,100 seat venue.
To ensure everyone was able to enjoy their evening and still get home safely in the rare blanket of snow that fell the night before, Hard Rock Casino Vancouver also offered a free shuttle to the nearest SkyTrain station.
The casino does not include a Hard Rock Cafe, a franchise owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Vancouver’s Hard Rock Cafe opened on W. Hastings in 1995 but closed its doors just five years later. Hard Rock Casino Vancouver continues to be owned and operated under the same management as it did as Boulevard Casino: Great Canadian Gaming Corporation. GCGC is using the brand under license from HRHH IP, LLC. GCGC also owns River Rock Casino, Hastings Racecourse, Fraser Downs Racetrack & Casino, View Royal Casino, Casino Nanaimo, several Chances locations, as well as properties outside of BC in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Washington.
