InterPoker has recently sent an email to affiliates stating that they are effectively shutting down their operations in Canada.
The email, first posted publicly on PokerEagles.com, states that “no new players can register and no deposits will be accepted from players residing in Canada.”
This decision comes in the wake of Playtech’s Titan Poker flip-flopping over their announcement of plans to leave the Canadian market and then withdrawing the statement, as well as Skrill ceasing transactions between Canadian players and poker sites starting in the new year. None of the companies have been forthcoming in providing reasons for their decisions.
InterPoker has had a complicated history. It is operated by WagerLogic, once a subsidiary of CryptoLogic. Wagerlogic was acquired by Montreal-based Amaya Gaming in 2011 and switched from the Boss Media network to the Ongame network earlier this year. This past summer, InterPoker and its related WagerLogic brands exited several regulated markets in Europe. In October, WagerLogic was sold to Goldstar Acquisitionco Inc for $70 million, a company based in Toronto and seemingly assembled for the purpose of purchasing WagerLogic.
No explanation has been offered for this decision.
