PokerNews Canada is absolutely thrilled to announce that we are joining forces with the Canadian Poker Tour (CPT) to create a powerful partnership. As two industry leaders in Canadian poker, we are sure that our combined effort will make live poker bigger, better, and more exciting than ever in Canada this year.
The first series to feature this new partnership is the CPT Spring Showdown at Grey Eagle Casino in Calgary, Alberta from April 8th to 14th. PokerNews Canada will be on site to provide a live-update blog and chip-count for our readers, daily recap articles, and stories and interviews from the event. CPT will also have video reports and interviews that will be made available on our live reporting page.
The CPT Spring Showdown is a six-event series with over $250K in guarantees! The $1,100 Main Event and $3,300 High Roller will bring some of the biggest names in Canadian and international poker to Calgary for the series. This looks to be one of the biggest events in Western Canada this year.
Team Ivey Pro Gillian Epp from Vancouver, BC will be the celebrity hostess for the series. She'll be welcoming players at the beginning of every event and will be the one in front of the camera for all of CPT's video content. She also plans to play the Main Event and High Roller, and as a cash game pro, she will be looking for action at the cash tables too. In a recent article from Ivey Poker, Epp explained that Calgary has great high stakes cash games, and in past CPT events in this city, "the $25/$50 PLO has had over a million dollars on the table."
This event, like all CPT events, will award points for players to compete in the annual CPT Points Race. Currently, Matthew Lapossie and Mike Leah are at the top of the leaderboard, but there are many events remaining for you to take away their top spot. Using the same points formula, CPT is also putting up a Player of the Series package for the player with the best results throughout the six-day event. The Player of the Series will win a VIP package to Las Vegas and a feature story and cover for the summer edition of Canadian Poker Player Magazine.
There are satellites already running at Grey Eagle Casino every Thursday and Sunday. A $200 buy-in gets you the chance to earn a $1,650 package than can be used for the events.
This is an event you absolutely do not want to miss. All signs are pointing toward it being one of the most exciting series we've seen on this side of the country for some time, and we're excited to keep the momentum going as we move forward in this partnership with CPT.
