Canadian Tournament Calendar - April 2014

Get your lucky tournament socks on; there are plenty of great events in Canada this month from coast to coast. As the weather starts to warm up around the country, the poker action heats up as well. CPT Hard Rock Casino Vancouver Poker Championships
Location: Hard Rock Casino Vancouver – Coquitlam, BC
Date: April 1st to 6th
The Hard Rock Casino Vancouver (HRCV) Poker Championships is the first series at this poker room since the extensive renovation that rebranded the location from Boulevard Casino to HRCV last year. Since their exciting reopening, they have become the premier place to play in the Vancouver area and the HRCV Poker Championships will definitely generate some excitement.

The series is also a Canadian Poker Tour (CPT) event, so players will earn Global Poker Index (GPI) points to contribute to the CPT Player of the Year leaderboard. There will also be a Player of the Series that will give the highest point-earner in Events 2-4 a $1,100 seat in the CPT Spring Showdown Main Event in Calgary the following week, as well as travel money and accommodations.
CPT Spring Showdown
Location: Grey Eagle Casino – Calgary, Alberta
Date: April 8th to 14th
Grey Eagle Casino is building on an image of being the place to play tournament poker in Calgary. They seem to be hosting a noteworthy series at least once a month and they easily fill seats for each one. The CPT Spring Showdown is looking to be the biggest series of the season for western Canada with over $250K in guarantees. CPT is bringing in Team Ivey Pro Gillian Epp from Vancouver to be the celebrity hostess of the series, PokerNews Canada will be on site live-reporting the Main Event and High Roller, and several big-name pros have committed to playing the series.

As a CPT event, players will earn GPI points on the industry’s authoritative player-ranking system. Those points will also count toward the CPT Player of the Year leaderboard. CPT is also putting up a Player of the Series package for the player with the best results throughout the six-day event. Their reward will be a VIP package to Las Vegas and a feature story and cover for the summer edition of Canadian Poker Player Magazine.
Spring Super Stack
Location: Deerfoot Inn & Casino – Calgary, Alberta
Date: April 10th to 13th
The annual Spring Super Stack is returning to Deerfoot inn & Casino this month, and it’s coinciding with the CPT Spring Showdown. This combination guarantees that there will be a lot of great poker in Calgary on the week of the 8th to 14th. The series is a two-tournament event and the buy-ins are set at $330 and $550.

The series is built on a promise of great structure at a small buy-in. You can also earn a seat in both events with the $150 Super Satellites on April 9th.
Manitoba Poker Open
Location: McPhillips Station Casino – Winnipeg, Manitoba
Date: April 23rd to 26th
The Manitoba Poker Open is a series the prairie provinces are looking forward to with much anticipation. There are four premier tournaments throughout the event, each one with a different sponsor (Winnipeg Sun, 92 CITI FM, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, and PlayNow). With buy-ins ranging from $300 to $1,100, there is great value for players of any calibre.

There will be several satellites running on April 22nd. With PlayNow as an official sponsor of the event, there are also satellites running online every day. The event claims there will be over $600,000 in prize pools, so head into Winnipeg for this big-value event.
Maritime Poker Championship
Location: Casino New Brunswick – Moncton, New Brunswick
Date: April 26th to May 4th
Touting the claim of “Atlantic Canada’s biggest poker series,” the Maritime Poker Championship is not overstating their prominence on the annual poker calendar for maritimers. This is the premier event of the year for players in the eastern-most part of the country. The seven-event series spans two weekends and has buy-ins between $115 and $1,100.

Casino New Brunswick estimates $230,000 in prize pools across the nine days of tournaments. The $550 Main Event has three starting flights (Friday evening and two on Saturday) so there is the capability to take on a large field. If you’re near the Atlantic coast, don’t miss this one.
