The second Day 1 has come to a close and we are set to begin Day 2 and play down to a winner at the Canadian Poker Tour (CPT) Spring Showdown Main Event at Grey Eagle Casino in Calgary, Alberta. A $125,000 guarantee was placed on the event, and the 106 entries on Day 1a nearly reached the guarantee before Day 1b even began. After Day 1b registration closed, the event had hit a total of 270 entries and a massive prize pool of$256,500, more than double the guarantee!
The 23 players left standing from Day 1a will be met by the 36 who still had stacks yesterday in Day 1b to make it 59 players taking seats today in the final day of the Main Event.
Ali Hassan and Henry Young continue to be the top two chip leaders from Day 1a, and Michelle Spivak, winner of Event 3, joins the race in the third spot with a little over 300K. For a full list of players, chips, and seating assignment for Day 2, see our live-update blog.
Players are competing for a top prize of $62,500 and 27 players will make money. Here are the payouts for the final table:
This huge 1/4-million-dollar prize pool follows the trend the Spring Showdown set early on when Event 1 doubled the guarantee as well. Attendance and excitement at Grey Eagle Casino has been huge, and a new standard is being set by CPT for the quality Canadian's should expect from their tournaments.
Team Ivey Pro Gillian Epp, host of the series, spoke with Kelly Kellner earlier in the day yesterday about how the Main Event is shaping up and the general success of the series.
As the Main Event finds a winner today, the $3,300 High Roller will also be getting started later in the afternoon. PokerNews Canada is on site live-reporting the action from both events. Stay tuned to our live-update blog to follow along!
