Everyone on the western half of Canada, as well as several to the east and south, are talking about the Canadian Poker Tour (CPT) Spring Showdown in Calgary, Alberta starting later this week. Now the appeal is even greater; Aria Resort and Casino in Las Vegas has come on board as a partner in the Player of the Series points race.
The six-event series runs from April 8th to 14th and features over $250,000 in guaranteed prize pools, which CPT claims is the "largest guaranteed poker series in Western Canada in 10 years." The events that are generating the most excitement are the $1,100 Main Event and the $3,300 High Roller. These will draw some big names to town.
Playing in any of the six events gives players a chance to earn points based on the Global Poker Index player-ranking system. The player with the most points at the end of the series will receive cash for travel expenses, a VIP Suite and comps at Aria Resort and Casino, plus an entry into a major upcoming poker tournament in Las Vegas that is yet to be announced.
The points will also contribute to the CPT Player of the Year points race. If you can't make it but want to follow the excitement, PokerNews Canada will be on site live-reporting the Main Event and High Roller.
