Edmontonian Wins PokerStars' 900,000,000th Tournament

PokerStars 900 millionth tournament

How many people make $150,000 on a Sunday afternoon?

In fairness, it actually took Edmonton, Alberta’s Talal "earlgrey23" Shoush Sunday afternoon, evening, and some of Monday morning to take down Pokerstars' celebratory 900 millionth tournament last weekend.

In celebration of the huge milestone, PokerStars put on a special $109 No-limit Hold'em tournament with a $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool on April 27th. Before play even began, registration was just shy of the 10,000 players needed to meet the guarantee, and by the time registration closed three hours later, well over 18,000 people would ultimately put a stack in play. The final prize pool was a whopping $1,871,100 nearly doubling the original guarantee.

After more than 14 hours of play, the tournament was finally over. The remaining players made a deal three-handed to virtually chop the nearly $500,000 for the final three spots. Shoush was the final man standing and collected $152,532.44 for his day's work.
