More Than $75K Awarded at River Rock May Showdown

River Rock Casino May Showdown

Poker action was hot over the weekend as the May Showdown ran at River Rock Casino in Richmond, BC. Running May 8-11, the two-event series included a $330 Turbo No-limit Hold'em on May 8, and a $550 two-day Main Event with Day 1a and 1b on May 9th and 10th, with Day 2 finishing on the 11th.

With an estimated prize pool of over $75,000 for the weekend, the first event sold out and paid a total of six spots. The first place prize of $7,108 went to "Mrs. P" from West Vancouver, BC, who you may remember won a side event at the last series hosted in Vancouver. She's a well-known regular at the local tables and won Event 3 at the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver Poker Championships almost exactly a month ago.

The two-day Main Event drew well over 100 entrants and generated a prize pool of nearly $60,000. Prize money went to 15 people, with Logan Dunn of Abbotsford, BC taking first place for after chopping three ways with Darren Kennedy (Surrey, BC) and Sean Handlin (Richmond, BC). In fact, the top six spots, and 13 of the 15 paid spots, all went to BC residents.
