CPT Summer Showdown: Biggest Poker Series Guarantee Alberta Has Ever Seen

It is being touted as "the largest guaranteed poker series ever held in Alberta." That should be reason enough to make your way to Calgary for the Canadian Poker Tour (CPT) Summer Showdown at Grey Eagle Casino at the end of July.

From July 24 to August 3, there will be 10 events over the 11-day schedule featuring over $500,000 in guaranteed prize pools. With buy-ins ranging from $200 to a $3,300 High Roller, there is an event for everyone and the series is sure to attract all types, including some of the top poker pros from Canada and abroad.

Something new from the good people at CPT, this event is presented by Ivey League, one of the world’s top poker training sites. Led by the incomparable Phil Ivey who just won his 10th World Series of Poker bracelet last week, Ivey League "help[s] players take their game to the next level with the best training resources and poker strategy available," Ivey explained. "It's more fun when you win!”

As usual, players will earn points toward the CPT Player of the Year race with every tournament cash, as well as score points on the Global Poker Index’s international player rankings. Also, there will be the added value of a Player of the Series leaderboard that will award the top point-earner across the 10 events a Poker Super Cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas hosted by World Poker Showdown and CPT, plus an Ivey League Master's Poker Training Package. As if that wasn't enough, all 10 event-winners will receive an Ivey League Bachelor's Poker Training Package.

Two media partners will be on site covering the series. The first is, you guessed it, PokerNews Canada. We will have our live reporting team on hand to provide coverage of the $1,100 Main Event and the $3,300 High Roller. As we continue to build our relationship with CPT, we will be breaking into new territory for many of these Canadian events by providing the best coverage of the game that has ever been seen locally. We believe Canadian poker deserves the spotlight.

Secondly, the Mark Hoke Show will be broadcasting from the series every day during the High Roller and Main Event. From Las Vegas, the Mark Hoke Show brings some of the greatest personalities in the poker world, in-depth analysis, and exciting stories to the radio waves. The Mark Hoke Show is broadcast on KLAV 1230 AM in Las Vegas and can also be heard streaming online.

CPT has added two new poker variants for this series. These are events that have proven to be very popular in poker festivals around the world, and CPT has added them to the schedule in their continued effort to offer players the latest in innovations to the game. CPT describes the two new formats in their press release for the series:

"A $330 buy-in Win The Button event will run on Wednesday July 30 with a $30,000 guarantee. In this format, the player that wins each hand will be the button for the next hand, giving them the premium position and value. Another exciting event that has become very popular is the All In or Fold – 2 Bullets event. Players will get two stacks of 5,000 chips and may only make one of two decisions each hand: to either go all in or fold. This $200 buy-in on Saturday evening August 2 will be a fun and exciting new addition to the series."
