Canadian Tournament Calendar - October 2014

October just may be the busiest month of live Canadian poker action this year!

PokerNews Canada is the only source for a comprehensive list of major Canadian poker tournaments each month, and the October edition is available for you here. With our help, you'll know where the action is from coast to coast to coast. Don't miss a single Canadian major by checking in each month for our calendar of events.

As the weather starts to turn, we know that Canadian poker players are putting away their beach towels, camping gear, lawnmowers, and whatever else has kept your weekends occupied over the last few months. With the weather dipping below comfortable t-shirt-wearing levels, it's time to move your weekend activities indoors.

There are many big poker tournaments in Canada this month. In fact, there are only eight days in the whole month where there isn't a major event somewhere in the country. There truly is something for everyone this month. Covering BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and PEI, you can't be far from a major poker series. So, no excuses, get down and support Canadian poker!

PlayNow Poker Championship

Date: October 1 to 4

Canada's only government-licensed and regulated online poker site, PlayNow.com, is hosting a four-event series in Winnipeg. The poker site, offered only to players in BC, Manitoba, and Quebec, is trying hard to gain the online poker dollars of eligible Canadians. Prairie players will gather at Winnipeg's McPhillips Station Casino for several days of mid-level buy-ins to try to earn the cash, the trophy, and the prestige.

West Coast Poker Championship

Location: Edgewater Casino — Vancouver, BC

It's the fifth annual West Coast Poker Championship at Edgewater Casino, a series Vancouver players will be excited to see, as the tournament scene has slowed down a bit since previous years. Even more exciting is that Edgewater is suggesting the prize pool is expected to reach $1,000,000. There are five events on the schedule, with the headliner being a $2,200 Main Event — big enough to draw all the big names out for the tournament.

Atlantic Canada's Poker Championship

It's time again for the annual Atlantic Canada's Poker Championship at Red Shores. The maritime provinces will get to determine who the best player in their region is in this one-tournament, $550, two-day event. If the event sells out, and it likely will at a 320-player maximum, the prize pool will be $160,000 with first place earning $40,000.

Red Shores Casino is offering satellites to give players the opportunity to qualify for a fraction of the already-low buy-in. Contact the casino for more details.

Wild West Shootout

Calgary has yet another poker series to offer the busy city. This time, Cash Casino has pulled from Calgary's cowboy roots to put together a schedule of seven events titled the Wild West Shootout. The buy-ins are affordable with everything fitting between $165 and $450.

Another single event worth noting is the Deep Stack at OLG Casino Brantford. The buy-in of $1,090 is expected to create a prize pool of $100,000. A decent poker event in Ontario is hard to come by, so make sure you check out this tournament.
