The Sunday Briefing: 'BodogAri' Flies the Flag in the Bigger $109

The Canadian Sunday Briefing

Despite most of the eyes in Canada being focused on the World Junior Hockey Championship semi-final game in Toronto against Slovakia, which Canada won 5-1 to advance to the gold medal game against Russia on Monday night, Canada’s online poker grinders were still putting in work this Sunday for the first big poker weekend of 2015.

Sunday Majors on PokerStars

The first major Canadian final table cash of the day came from ‘CageMTL82’ in the PokerStars Sunday Kickoff. An eighth-place finish was worth $2,927. ‘4QuietSTorm4’ followed up by making the final table of the Sunday Warm-Up, earning $14,314 for a seventh-place finish.

A heads-up battle for ‘BodogAri’ in the Bigger $109 ended in a second-place score of $37,623 — the largest prize for a player in Canada this Sunday. ‘CutiePi314’ also final-tabled the tournament, busting in sixth for $10,726. A couple of countrymen made the final table of the Sunday 2nd Chance. ‘SuperChicken’ placed fifth for $12,580, and top online pro Shyam ‘G’s zee’ Srinivasan busted in ninth for $2,893.

Canada did not have a representative on the Sunday Million final table this week. Well known Newfie pro Danny ‘DannyN13’ Noseworthy was just shy of the task, busting in 15th for just over $6,000.

Sunday Majors on Full Tilt

Over on Full Tilt, MiniFTOPS XXVII began with a Canadian grabbing the first title. ‘theoutflopped’ scored the victory and a $19,302 top prize. It was business as usual for the rest of the Sunday lineup on Full Tilt. ‘dlanger610’ had a deep run in the Sunday Brawl earning $12,914 for third place.

Two Americans who display the red and white flag while they play from within our borders, Moshin ‘chicagocasrd1’ Charania and Kevin ‘Wu_Wizard’ MacPhee, both final-tabled the Super Sized Sunday. Charania was the runner-up finisher adding $17,340 to his bankroll while MacPhee busted in eighth for $3,060.

Sunday Majors on PKR Poker

This Sunday was day for the monthly $50,000-guaranteed PKR Masters, which had 359 players with buy-in of $150. The event fell just short of the guarantee to create a small overlay. First prize was an even $10,000 and went to 'christos75' from Australia. The highest-ranked Canadian was 'CPW11' in eighth for $1,200. Three of the four Team PKR Rros, Roman 'Trogvar' Khlan, Simon 'Rhymenoceros' Hemsworth, and Eleaner 'Elz442' Gudger, all played the event but none cashed. In fact, Gudger was the very first player eliminated from the tournament in 359th place.
