The Sunday Briefing: Two TCOOP Titles for Canada

The Canadian Sunday Briefing

The latest edition of the Sunday Briefing features two new Canadian champions of the PokerStars Turbo Championship of Online Poker (TCOOP). Here's how Canadian players did in the past weekend's major Sunday tournaments:

Sunday Majors on Full Tilt

It was a triple major final-table Sunday on Full Tilt as the two biggest tournaments featured three players in Canada within the final nine players. In the Sunday Brawl, Ben ‘NeverScaredB’ Wilinofsky placed fourth for $10,197, Mike ‘SirWatts’ Watson finished sixth for $5,341, and 'zerochill' had another successful Sunday busting in eighth for $2,913. The other event was The Sunday Major where ‘metfan4590’ (second — $24,892), ‘SNEHNESNE4444’ (fourth — $14,224), and Joseph ‘subiime’ Cheong (eighth — $4,089) all secured final-table paydays.

Sunday Majors on PokerStars

Over on PokerStars, Canada’s ‘shibonimo’ earned a huge victory in the $215 TCOOP Sunday Supersonic Special Edition. Shibonimo was able to navigate a field of 2,923 runners to earn a $64,410 payday after a five-way chop at the final table. The second TCOOP title of the day was won by ‘SilentPurple’ who grabbed the title and a $28,728 score in TCOOP-14, a $82 rebuy no-limit Omaha hi-lo tournament. He defeated 623 runners to claim the top prize of the $151,200 total prize pool. Another Canadian also final-tabled the same event; ‘trelskig’ busted in fifth for $7,560. TCOOP-17 shipped another score to Canada. ‘4rebmun’ made it past 3,784 players to bust in fourth for $43,550.

With his victory and previous two cashes this series, SilentPurple slipped in the top 10 of the TCOOP leaderboard, now sitting in a tie for ninth place. The Player of the Series for TCOOP will receive a Champion’s Trophy and a 2015 Spring Championship of Online Poker Main Event ticket.

Also, a couple of players in Canada final-tabled the PokerStars Sunday 500. A three-way deal saw ‘dlanger610’ earn $40,069 for third. ‘Kappustahead’ finished in fifth, just missing out on the deal, taking home $18,952. The Sunday 2nd Chance featured another Canadian final-table duo. ‘Maloyd’ and ‘AAcademiKK’ earned the second and third spots for $31,292 and $23,408 respectively. ‘Moder11’ added $20,772 to his bankroll after a three-way deal in the Sunday Storm.

Other Sunday Majors

Players in Canada did not find much success outside of PokerStars or Full Tilt this Sunday. For the second week in a row, the Sunday major on partypoker missed its $200,000 guarantee creating a juicy overlay of just over $20,000. With 961 entries, the top Canadian cash came from ‘i remember’ who received $2,060 for 15th. The $500, $100,000-guaranteed high roller just made its guarantee with 219 entries. ‘Wywrotx’ had the most success for a player in Canada, just missing out on the final table, earning $2,271 for 12th. The $100,000 Mega Deep on 888poker saw 781 players pay the $215 buy-in, but no Canadian player made a notable run in the weekly major.
