2015 PokerNews Cup Main Event Day 1b: Florian Hardtke Leads

2015 PokerNews Cup

Since 2007, the PokerNews Cup has toured the world to give thousands of recreational players and PokerNews aficionados the opportunity to join a professional live poker event at an affordable buy-in.

Eight years after the first event invaded the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia, the PokerNews Cup is back with a new edition and with a vibrant €200,000 GTD. Main Event currently being played at the King’s Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic.

After Thursday’s Day 1a ended with a total of 197 entries (173 players, 24 reentries) and Ukraine’s Pavlo Tormozov bagging the biggest stack, things got even bigger on Friday when the Day 1b welcomed 324 players and 36 reentries.

The second of the four starting flights of the Main Event has again seen some big names at the table such as the Czech Poker Tour (CPT) Player of the Year Luke Zaskodny, German poker pro and winner of the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire TV show Sebastian Langrock, and Austria’s Fabian Gritsch and Sasa Lalos.

Among the players that showed up at Europe’s biggest poker room to play Day 1b, we also spotted Karl-Heinz Metz, a true regular of the series who surely deserves an award for his great loyalty.

Metz, who arrived to Rozvadov after winning package on PokerNews earlier this year, is a known face in the competition, as he has already joined it four times in the past. Unfortunately, however, the player will probably have to wait for at least one more year to lift the champion’s trophy, as his adventure in the main event ended already during Day 1b.

At the end of the 13 levels played on Thursday, Germany’s Florian Hardtke (pictured) was the player to sit on top of the day's chip count with a stack of 400,500 chips.

Here’s a look at the top 10 positions in the chip counts at the end of Day 1b:
