The Canadian Sunday Briefing

The biggest story of the weekend in online tournament poker was a second-place finish for ‘WalmartCNXN’ in the PokerStars Sunday Million. Despite ultimately finishing second, WalmartCNXN scooped the biggest piece of the prizepool, taking home $165,000 after a three-way deal. Here's how some other Canadian-based players cashed in this Sunday:

Sunday Majors on Full Tilt

Sunday was a big day on Full Tilt as the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) XXVIII continued much to the delight of a couple of Canadian online legends. Although Canada was shut out of the final table in the $250 Event #17, Griffin ‘Flush_Entity’ Benger made up for it in the $2,500 two-day Event #15. Benger was not able to claim the gold jersey but received $77,928 for second place. 'MUFAZZA' busted just behind Benger in third for $58,446 and 'Zachattak1327' was eliminated in eighth for $13,752.

In the last event of the day, Event #19, ‘dlanger610’ powered through a $100 rebuy earning $36,865 for second while ‘morans350’ busted eighth for $5,402, and Russell ‘rdcrsn’ Carson was the first eliminated on the final table in ninth for $4,277.

Sunday Majors on PokerStars

Aside from the great score in the Sunday Million as detailed already, PokerStars was where ‘n3xd’ placed sixth in the Sunday Warm-Up for $17,319. ‘1BigAceHole’ made a run in the Sunday Rebuy, busting third for $23,590. ‘TherookieQQ9’ banked $33,025 for a runner-up finish in the Bigger $109.

Another Canadian duo final-tabled the Sunday 500, again grabbing the third- and fourth-place spots. ‘XXstardogXX’ and ‘badameli’ earned $38,604 and $38,000, respectively, after a final four deal was cut. Sunday Majors on partypoker

Partypoker continues to be the home of great value as their Sunday majors repeatedly top up the prizepool to meet the guarantee. Both of their notable weekly tournaments missed the guarantee by just about $20,000. The $200K Guaranteed Sunday with a $200 buy-in received 971 entries, which means players were able to play for a prize equal to a tournament with 1,075 players, but only had to face 970 opponents for the same money. Two players from Canada made an appearance at the final table. The best result came from ‘ShaneO19O’ (third — $16,360), while joined by ‘pl5badbeatme’ (ninth — $3,320).

The $500 buy-in $100,000 Gtd High Roller saw 172 players, and this time a Canadian-based player found the win. 'SwedeTiitg_se' was the last player standing, earning $19,500.
