The Sunday Briefing: 'CliKiNBuToNz' Takes Down 888poker's $100,000 Mega Deep

The Canadian Sunday Briefing

Sunday was a rare off day for players in Canada. Normally dominating the final tables of online poker’s best and biggest weekly events, this week, Canadians were held off the score sheet for the most part. A couple of red and white flags reached the top of the podium as ‘WatchOutFish’ and ‘dragonwarrior’ grabbed fresh hardware on PokerStars and a countryman won the $100,000 Mega Deep on 888poker.

Sunday Majors on Full Tilt

After being shut out of the Sunday Brawl on Full Tilt, one Canadian was able to navigate their way to the final table of the $250 Sunday Major. ‘Jbrow8777’ banked $11,176 after finishing in fifth place. The $500 Super Sized Sunday saw players in Canada get back on track as we grabbed three of the top four prizes. ‘StephCute’ finished runner-up for $14,282, American re-located player Justin ‘ZeeJustin’ Bonomo was third for $10,712, and ‘MUFAZZA’ earned $8,401 for fourth.

Sunday Majors on PokerStars

It wasn’t until the Bigger $109 that Canadians found their way to a final table on PokerStars, but ‘WatchOutFish’ made it count, taking down the title and $44,556. ‘Rubsalt’ (fourth — $16,497) and ‘deucesofclub’ (seventh — $6,909) also made deep runs. A pair of Canucks made the spotlight in the Sunday Million. Sammy ‘illraiseyou8’ Lafleur lasted the longest of the two, placing sixth for $40,915 with ‘TMcK69’ busting in eighth, earning $15,343. The second victory of the day for Canada came in the Bigger $55 as ‘dragonwarrior’ scooped up $36,378 for the win.

Sunday Majors on 888poker

It was Canada’s day on 888poker in the weekly $100,000 Mega Deep. One of our own rose to the top of 824 players to claim the win. ‘CliKiNBuToNz’ earned $34,608 for the victory and was one of two Canadians at the final table. ‘Onrefni’ was eliminted in ninth for $2,472.

This week, there was also The $200,000 Whale on 888 with a hefty buy-in of $600. With 460 players in the mix, the best Canadian result was that of Sebastian ‘p000cket000’ Sikorski who came 11th, adding to his long lineage of online tournament results.

Sunday Majors on partypoker

If you’re a value-hunter, partypoker is the place for you. Their weekly $200K Guaranteed Sunday has had an overlay almost every week this year, meaning there is extra prize pool in relation to the number of opponents. With 966 entries this week, the top Canadian result was achieved by ‘MehIFold’ who came sixth, earning $8,280.

Following their $200 weekly major is the $100,000 Gtd High Roller on partypoker with a buy-in of $500. It, too, fell just shy of the guarantee and saw Canadian ‘jimboeheim’ finish eighth for $4,100.

Sunday Majors on PlayNow Poker

For the only all-Canadian Sunday major, PlayNow Poker has their $20,000 Guaranteed! with a buy-in of $215. Bringing together players from Quebec, Manitoba, and B.C. on the Canadian Poker Network, this government-owned site is full of value.

This week, ‘omj’ came out on top of 95 entries to win $5,971.80, beating Joanne ‘jojohojo’ Lewis heads-up, who you may remember from our profile of the Vancouver Ladies Poker League, and who has won one of these PlayNow majors as recently as last month.

Here are the top 10 finishers of this week’s PlayNow major:
