2015 WCOOP Main Event Begins Sept. 27 on PokerStars with $10 Million in Guarantees 0001

The richest online poker tournament series in the world — the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) — is returning once again on PokerStars in September.

While the full schedule has yet to be released, Amaya Inc., the parent company of PokerStars, announced the 2015 WCOOP Main Event will take place from Sept. 27-28.

Poker's biggest online event features a hefty $5,200 buy-in with a huge $10 million in guaranteed prizes. Despite the huge guarantee, prizepools exceeded the $10 million mark on four separate occasions.

During last year's WCOOP Main Event, Austria's Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz became a household name after outlasting the 2,142-player field to collect $1.3 million as part of a six-way deal on the final table.

The biggest win, however, came in 2010, when online poker was larger than life before Black Friday shook up the world. American Tyson "POTTERPOKER" Marks may hold the record for some time after winning the 2010 WCOOP Main Event for a mind-blowing $2,278,097.50.

Although this year's WCOOP Main Event is still almost four months away, PokerStars players are already trying to secure their seats with the many satellites running around the clock. Mega Path satellites start at just one frequent player point (FPP), giving every player on the site a chance to grab their seat and play for the millions of dollars at stake.

Last year, 77 players qualified for the $5,200 Main Event through the Mega Path and due to satellites starting very early this year, PokerStars hopes to see a significant increase on that figure this year. Russia's Marat "maratik" Sharafutdinov had his dreams come true in 2012 when he qualified for that year's prestigious event for only 40 FPPs, and parlayed that into a huge win in the WCOOP Main Event for $1,000,907.26.
