The PlayNow Poker Championship is Back at Winnipeg's McPhillips Station Casino

PlayNow Poker Championship

For the second time this year, the PlayNow Poker Championship is returning to McPhillips Station Casino in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Billed as “Winnipeg’s biggest poker tournament,” the series is back and celebrating its 10th edition in the prairie city.

The series is presented by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries along with PlayNow and sponsored by Winnipeg Free Press and 92 CITI FM with a tournament bearing the name of each partner. The four tournaments range in buy-ins from $300 and $1,100 and will be capped at 330 players each.

It all kicks off on Tuesday, September 29 with an invitational satellite day where only players who have earned points at the casino’s poker room in the past few months are able to participate. The first open event begins on September 30 with the Winnipeg Free Press No Limit Texas Hold’em Tournament — a $600 reentry with 30-minute blinds that will conclude the following the day.

Thursday, October 1 will see the lowest-priced event of the series get under way. The 92 CITI FM No Limit Texas Hold’em Bounty Tournament is a $300 event that includes $50 bounties for each player. With 20-minute blinds and a starting stack of 5,000 chips, the winner will be declared within the same day.

The highest-priced tournament will be the star on Friday, October 2. The Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Poker Championship has a pricetag of $1,100 for a seat and 15,000 chips. With 45-minute levels, reentry, and as many as 330 players in the field, the winner won’t be declared until the following day, as play will pause after Level 15 on Friday before resuming play on Saturday with lengthened one-hour levels.

Saturday’s No Limit Texas Hold’em Tournament will give players one last chance at a big cash with the $400 reentry featuring quick 20-minute levels, which will conclude the series.

There could be more than $650,000 in prizes awarded over the four events if they reach near capacity. Satellites are already running at for Canadians from B.C., Manitoba, and Quebec.
