888poker to Attract Recreational Players With New “Live the Game” TV Ad Campaign


The world's second-largest real-money online poker room, 888poker, plans to launch a new television advertising campaign with hopes of attracting more recreational players.

According to eGaming Review (EGR), the new “Live the Game” campaign will begin broadcasting tomorrow in the United Kingdom before being launched in other markets in the near future. The campaign features three different advertisements with three players trying to out-do each other in every day life situations.

888 PR and Marketing Director Sivan Finn discussed how the campaign should be attractive to "true poker players."

“The idea behind the concept is that for true poker players, the dynamics of poker are reflected in everything they do — it’s how they view the world,” stated Finn. “Whether they are in a dance-off, diving into a pool, or even just chilling on holiday, they love to outplay each other in whatever game they’re playing. They live and breathe the game.”

Targeting recreational poker players is nothing new to 888poker. All year long, 888poker runs different campaigns on its poker room to make its offerings more attractive to its recreational customers. For example, currently the online poker room is running its Gift Showers promotion, where $700,000 is being awarded to its players with $12,000 being given away every single day.

For the most part, it appears that whatever 888poker has been doing is working. Not only are they firmly entrenched in the number two spot on the PokerScout Online Poker Traffic Report, but have also grown to the second-largest online poker room in the U.K. As EGR points out, this is a huge climb from being just the 17th-largest site in the country at one point in time.

Recreational players appears to be a theme for many online gaming rooms throughout the year. Most notably is PokerStars announcing huge changes to its VIP program starting on Jan. 1, 2016 and restrictions on various third-party software. Both of these changes are believed to help the recreational player base at the world's largest online poker room.

PokerStars wasn't the only site to implement changes this year, as partypoker banned HUDs and seating scripts in an effort to even the playing field. Additionally, the Microgaming Poker Network this year instituted a new policy allowing its players to change their screennames the sooner of every 30 days or every 1,000 real money hands to help limit the effectiveness of seating scripts and HUDs.
