After the initial announcement that the World Series of Poker (WSOP) was returning to Canada for a WSOP Circuit stop in Montreal, Quebec, poker fans have been eagerly awaiting more details.

When the news first broke last November, we only knew the dates (April 20 to May 1, 2016) and the venue (Casino de Montréal). With the event not appearing on the WSOP Circuit calendar online, players were beginning to ask questions. Now they have answers.

A press conference on Wednesday, January 27, saw Mitch Garber, the CEO of Caesars Interactive Entertainment which owns the WSOP, officially announce the event.

As we already knew, the series will run from April 20 to May 1. There will be 10 events in those 12 days. In keeping with the Circuit’s format of 12 champion rings, two more events will run on May 7 and May 8 on

Garber is from Montreal and is a bit of a mainstream celebrity in that part of the world. He co-stars on the French Canadian TV show Dans L’oeil du Dragon, which is the French version of the shows Shark Tank and Dragon’s Den. He also sits on the board of Guy Laliberte’s One Drop Foundation.

“As a Montrealer, I feel particularly proud of the fact that the Casino [de Montréal] is the only Canadian stop on this remarkable circuit and that a Quebecer could be seated at the WSOP Circuit National Championship,” said Garber at the press conference.

By the time the WSOP is dealing cards in Canada again in April, it will have been two and a half years since the Circuit last came north of the border. The WSOP Circuit made stops at River Rock Casino in Richmond, B.C. in 2012 and 2013, and also in Casino du Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec in 2013.

As has been the case in all previous Canadian WSOP Circuit stops, the event is hosted in partnership with Espacejeux or PlayNow which both tap into the Canadian Poker Network to bring players from B.C., Manitoba, and Quebec together on the only government licensed and regulated online poker platforms in the country.

PlayNow and Espacejeux are the only sites to have ever awarded WSOP Circuit rings online.

There will be satellites to the events running in Quebec’s four casinos (starting March 9) as well as online at (starting January 31).
