After a year's absence, the Spring Super Stack is back at Deerfoot Inn & Casino in Calgary, Alberta this April for five great events on a quick, four-day schedule. April 14-17, 2016 will see premium Alberta poker back at the tables.
Deerfoot has been steadily growing their reputation as being home to some of the best tournament series in the western half of the country. Their Winter Super Stack, Spring Super Stack, and Summer Super Stack are joined by their Stampede Classic to offer players four signature events each year.
The upcoming Spring Super Stack features a more compact schedule with fewer events tightly packed into a single weekend. Just a couple of days off of work (practice your “I’m sick, boss” cough) will allow players to take a run at all five tournaments, which is great news since there is a High Point Champion prize for the player who racks up the best results across the four days.
Action kicks off on April 14 with Day 1a of the $1,100 Main Event, billed as Event #1. Players will receive a generous 30,000 chips and be given 40-minute levels to battle their way to the money. Later in the same day, Event #2 will kick off with a $220 no-limit hold’em tournament.
April 15 will see another flight of the Main Event take off and Event #3 will highlight the evening with a $330 bounty tournament.
The following day, Saturday, will be the third and final Main Event entry day. There will also be a pot-limit Omaha tournament that evening for Event #4 with a $220 buy-in.
The final day, April 17, will see the Main Event play into the money and players will start collecting their share of the $150,000 guaranteed prize pool. They’ll continue to play until a victor is crowned. There will also be Event #5: Last Chance starting up in the afternoon with a $330 buy-in.

We mentioned the High Point Champion prize above. This points race will see the eventual winner pick up three free tournament entries for August’s Summer Super Stack at Deerfoot Inn & Casino, including a Main Event seat. This added value is provided by the casino and isn’t taken from any of the prize pools. To win, players need to play as many events in the series as possible. Cashes will earn them points and the player with the most points at the end of the series will be the High Point Champion.
The points are awarded based on the finishing position, the buy-in, and the number of players in the tournament. Details on the points formula can be obtained from Deerfoot Inn & Casino.
PokerNews Canada will be on site once again to provide live coverage of each day of the Main Event with updates of the big hands, notable players, tallest stacks, and photos for all four days of the tournament. You can follow along on our live reporting page. See you there!
