Summer Super Stack Serves Up 14 Tournaments in 12 Days in Calgary
The Summer Super Stack poker tournament series is back at Deerfoot Inn & Casino this August with 14 events spread across 12 days in Calgary, Alberta.
This is one of Alberta’s largest and most exciting tournament series each year and it is scheduled for August 11 to 22. There are events with buy-ins as low as $220 all the way up to the headlining $1,500 Main Event which boasts a prize pool guarantee of $200,000.
If last year is any indication, the Main Event guarantee will be well surpassed. The 2015 Summer Super Stack saw an impressive 278 entries to create a prize pool of $369,740 and Jonathan Sanborn came out on top after a seven-way deal to earn the title and a little over $45,000.
The series will kick off with a $550 event with generous 40-minute blind levels and starting stacks of 25,000 chips. There are three Day 1s giving players plenty of opportunity to try to make Day 2 where the money will be awarded as play continues down to a winner.
The other tournaments include a four-game mix that has yet to be announced, some pot-limit Omaha action, a rebuy event, a heads-up duel, a team event, a couple of bounty tournaments, and more standard hold’em. The game types are varied and the buy-ins stay in an affordable range, making the Summer Super Stack one of the most fun tournament series around.
With the buy-in set at $1,500 for the Main Event, players from all over the country will be playing their best game trying to earn a big chunk of the hefty prize pool. Each entrant will receive 30,000 chips and action will progress through one-hour blind levels. The first of three Day 1s will get started on Friday, August 19. Saturday and Sunday will also qualify another batch of Day 2 players and then the survivors will return on Monday, August 22, to play down to a champion.

There are still more announcements to come for this event as we learn the format of the unique four-game mixed tournament which would be something Alberta hasn’t seen in recent memory. Deerfoot Inn & Casino is also assembling a Player Of The Series prize package for the player who has the best success across all 14 events. Details on that prize package should be revealed soon.
