Robert Babb Steals Late-Day Lead in Calgary's Mega Stack Day 1b
The first event of the 2017 Winter Super Stack filled tables at Deerfoot Inn & Casino on Friday. The $550 Mega Stack kickoff tournament offered the second of three starting flights at the Calgary casino.
This two-day event with three starting flights is the traditional first tournament of Deerfoot Inn & Casino’s Super Stack series, of which there are three: Winter Super Stack, Spring Super Stack, and Summer Super Stack. The first of 2017 got started on Thursday with Day 1a of Event #1 where 71 players were reduced to seven survivors. Friday’s Day 1b added another 97 entries to the field and play paused with 10 remaining.
With two of three starting days now complete, a total of 168 entries have been narrowed to 17 in-the-money players.
After a little more than 12 hours after the noon start, Robert Babb was the player with the most chips as stacks were bagged for Sunday’s Day 2. He took the chip lead in the final hand of the night when he knocked out Jimmy Gill, taking the day’s field down to the top 10 percent and stopping the action for the day.
Behind Robert Babb’s 443,900 chips was Toby Wu with 359,600 and Roman Brar with 305,000.

There’s still one last starting flight for players to try to make Day 2. On Saturday at noon, Day 1c will add another round of players to the field which is on track to easily surpass the $100,000 prize pool guarantee.
