Get our your red pen and mark your calendars. Winter Super Stack is back at Deerfoot Inn & Casino and it’s a few weeks earlier than previous years, helping ease your eager anticipation.
Calgary is being put on the map in a big way for tournament poker, and Deerfoot’s annual series are one of the major reasons Canadian and American poker players are taking notice of Alberta’s largest city.
Each year, Deerfoot Inn & Casino host three Super Stack tournament series. The first of 2017 offers a refuge from the ice and snow to play 13 tournaments across 12 days in the Winter Super Stack series.
Action kicks off on January 26 with a two-day $550 tournament with three starting flights. Players can enter and try to qualify for Day 2 on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday before returning to play for the big money on Sunday. The prize pool is guaranteed at $100,000.
The real draw is the $1,500 Main Event that guarantees a quarter of a million dollars in the prize pool. Like Event #1, the Main Event is a two-day tournament with three starting days. For the $1,500 entry fee, players will receive a big stack of 30,000 chips and play through generous 60-minute blind levels.
If past years are any indication, the $250,000 prize pool guarantee will be easily surpassed and put much more than that up for grabs. In 2015, the guarantee was just $100,000 and the final tally came to $340,960 with Ryan Hodge winning $36,400 in first place. Last year, the guarantee was bumped up to $200,000 and the prize pool came in at $405,650 with Devin Verstraelen pocketing an impressive $71,798 for the win.
The 2017 Winter Super Stack Main Event raises the bar with Deerfoot’s largest prize pool guarantee yet. Players from across the country and south of the border will be coming to Cowtown to take on the local talent and try to earn a big prize.
Aside from the two multi-day tournaments, there are the 10 other events in a variety of game types and buy-ins. There will be a four-game mixed tournament, pot-limit Omaha, bounty events, a $1,100 heads-up battle, a team event, and more. Most of them feature buy-ins in the $220 to $330 range, making them affordable for any poker player.
