Canada Crushes SCOOP with More than $10M in Cashes

Spring Championship of Online Poker, SCOOP, PokerStars

The 2017 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) at PokerStars just wrapped up and it was a doozy. It featured the largest-ever series guarantee with a total of $55 million up for grabs. But once the series came to a close, the collective prize pools came in at more than $93 million, which is a new record!

The marquee event of the series was SCOOP-55-H, a $10,300 Main Event. With 693 entries, the prize pool tipped over $6.9 million and it ended after a heads-up deal that included Canada-based American Harrison “gibler321” Gimbel. Ultimately, the U.K.’s Charlie “Epiphany77” Carrel came out as the victor, winning $1,200,899.97. But Gimbel’s runner-up prize was still a staggering $1,122,873.99 and was won under the Canadian flag.

Canada fielded the fifth-most players to the series at 46,112 entrants. Germany, the U.K., Russia, and Brazil on top with 72,678 all had more representation at the tables. However, more money was earned by players in Canada than anywhere else at a total of $10,862,903.92. The U.K. came second with about $2 million less.

The total number of cashes followed the same rank and order as the amount of entrants with Canada sitting in fifth at 7,980 and Brazil on top with 12,501. However, out of those, Canada had the second-most final tables with 116, beat by Brazil (120).

When it came to finding the finish, Canada tied with Russia for 18 each, but the U.K. had the most with 20 victories.
