Raphael Duval Wins partypoker Grand Prix Canada
Playground Poker Club’s month-long World Cup of Cards is still going until September 13, but the first major event of the series wrapped up on Monday. Raphael Duval won partypoker Grand Prix Canada for $200,000.
The $1M-guaranteed tournament featured a buy-in of just $220. Day 1s started online back on July 16 and ran until August 13. Then there were daily live Day 1 flights from August 13 to 19 at Playground. There was then an online Day 2 on August 13 and a live Day 2 on August 20 before everyone combined to the live Day 3 on August 21.
With 2,958 entries, the prize pool fell well short of the guaranteed million, creating an overlay of a quarter-million dollars.
Duval’s victory in this event for $200,000 was just his second recorded live tournament cash. The other was for $500 last fall. Runner-up Debra Holman earned $125,000 to top a lifetime of under $10,000 in cashes.
Still remaining in the $6 million series is the $1,650 Card Player Poker Tour World Cup of Cards, the $1,100 Playground1000 with $1M guaranteed, the $10,300 High Roller 6-Max Reentry, the $2,200 Canadian Poker Championships with $2M guaranteed, and much more. It all takes place at Canada’s premier poker destination, Playground Poker Club, just outside of Montreal.
