Canada Blanks WPT bestbet Jacksonville
The poker spotlight fell on Florida this week as bestbet Jacksonville played host to the World Poker Tour (WPT).
Action kicked off on October 21 in the $5,000 WPT bestbet Jacksonville Main Event. With a final tally of 323 entries after two starting days, the prize pool came in at a tasty $1,501,950.
For the Canadian contingent, Ari Engel took a shot on Day 1b but failed to bag a stack. That left our nation out of the running for the title.
On the final day, Darren Elias fell short of winning a fourth WPT title, finished in third for $135,548. Finishing one better, defending Champion Sam Panzica came very close to winning his third title after winning this same event last year. At the time, that was his first WPT win, which he followed with a second title at Bay 101 this year.
The winner, joining the Champions Club for the first time, was Paul Petraglia, pocketing $315,732.
Next up is the last Canadian WPT stop of the year as the tour heads to Playground Poker Club for WPT Montreal. That begins on November 10 and features a buy-in of $3,850.
