Every Sunday, millions of dollars are paid out to poker players around the world when sites like 888poker, PokerStars, and partypoker host the week’s biggest and best online tournaments. Each week, we take a look at how players from Canada fared in the Sunday majors.
This Sunday, December 17, 2017, there were a lot of big Canadian results this weekend, but none quite matched winning the Sunday Million, which was done by “pokerjeff370” for more than $140K. Here’s a full report on major Canadian results this Sunday:
Sunday Majors on 888poker
The $100,000 Mega Deep
The usual premier Sunday tournament on 888poker boasts a guarantee of $100,000 for a $215 buy-in. This week, the guarantee was missed by the 347 players and 102 rebuys.
One player from Canada made the final table this week. Finishing runner-up, “patrickhenry” earned $14,250 while representing our nation. The winner was “MalakiasCF” from the U.K. for $19,250.
The $120,000 Whale
The Whale is 888poker’s high-roller tournament of the day with a buy-in of $1,050 along with a $120,000 guarantee. With 83 players and 26 rebuys, the tournament had a prize pool overlay.
Canada’s Tim “REALTTWIST” Kelly finished third for $16,800, while the U.K.’s “MalakiasCF” achieved the unbelievable feat of winning this tournament as well as 888poker’s only other Sunday major in the same day. They collected $33,000 for the win.
Sunday Majors on PokerStars
The biggest tournaments of the day get started on PokerStars every week with the $109 Sunday Kickoff. The guarantee of $100,000 was beat when 1,021 entries created a prize pool of $102,100.
It came to an end with no Canadians at the final table. “Powergolf” from Denmark was the winner, collecting $16,735.01.
The $215 Sunday Warm-Up heats up the action with a $200,000 guarantee. With 1,264 players, the guarantee was beat by more than $50,000.
Of the final nine players, three were from Canada. The first of the three eliminated was “n3xD” in eighth place for $4,176.88, followed by Rohid “FireFaux” Omari in fifth for $10,929.07. But the winner was our very own “tizzle26” for $39,406.55.
Moving on to the lowest-priced tournament that could be considered a Sunday major, the $11 Sunday Storm is the best value you’ll find in online poker. Despite the tiny buy-in, the prize pool is set at a guaranteed $225,000. With 26,701 entries, the prize pool came to $267,010.
There were no Canadians at the final table this week. The winner was “Bastelbastel” from Germany for $22,643.52 after a four-way deal.
Sunday High Roller
The highest-priced regular Sunday major is the Sunday High Roller with a hefty buy-in of $2,100 and guaranteeing $150,000 in prizes. With 102 entries, the guarantee was beat by more than $50,000.
Three Canadian flags waved at the final table this week with Pascal “Pass_72” Lefrancois collecting eighth-place money of $6,411.55, “roo_400” earning $15,018.64 for fifth, and American expat Grayson “gray31” Ramage pocketing $26,489.60 in third from within our borders. The winner was Sweden’s Viktor “Isildur1” Blom for $46,721.89.
The most jaw-dropping tournament in online poker is the only one that guarantees a million dollars in prizes every week. A total of 5,546 entries created a prize pool of $1,109,200.
It was a Canadian victory this week with “pokerjeff370” collecting an incredible $142,465.78 after a heads-up deal. One other player from Canada, Mark “scrubbyz” Zajdner, took fifth for $36,332.28 as well.
Mini Sunday Million
Giving the Sunday Million feel for a smaller buy-in is the weekly Mini Sunday Million where the entry is just $22 and $150,000 is guaranteed. With 10,124 entries this week, the prize pool came to $202,480.
No Canadians made the final table. The winner was Russian “Archi801” for $12,791.49 after a four-way deal in which they took the smallest portion.
With a buy-in of $530, the Sunday 500 guarantees $150,000. A total of 357 entries beat the guarantee, coming in at $178,500 to play for.
At the final table, Canada had no representatives. The winner was Mexico’s “LrdofDonkTwn” for $32,664.23.
The buy-in drops to $109 for the Sunday Cooldown and the pace increases with a turbo structure. With the guarantee set at $100,000, this week’s 1,178 entries beat that by nearly $18,000.
The final nine included no Canadians. “Gustavo5454” from Brazil took the win for $18,616.41.
The Sunday majors conclude on PokerStars with the $215 Sunday Supersonic — a six-max hyper-speed tournament with a $150,000 guarantee. In just under two and a half hours, 793 players were reduced to one.
There were no players within our borders among the final table of six. Argentina’s “martinnp” took top honours for $27,381.46.

Heavyweight: The Title Fight Warm Up
Getting the majors started on partypoker each week is the Warm Up edition of their signature major. If features the same $215 buy-in and a prize pool guarantee of $100,000. With 533 entrants this week, the prize pool came to $106,600.
The win went to “Nemekiss1” from Mexico for $17,715.87 after a heads-up deal. No Canadians made the final table.
Heavyweight: The Main Event Warm Up
Starting at the same time, partypoker also has a Warm Up version of their lower-priced major. It has the same $109 buy-in with $100,000 guaranteed, and 948 entrants this week made for a small overlay.
The win went to “Wital11” from Russia, earning $15,121.47. Canadian “CharognePlus” took ninth for $1,090.
High Roller Warm Up
For those with deeper pockets, a third Warm Up starts at the same time as the other two. The $530 High Roller Warm Up guarantees a prize pool of $100,000. With 180 players taking part, the guarantee was missed.
The winner was “oi-oi-oi” of Russia for $19,878.20. Canada was absent from the final table.
Heavyweight: The Title Fight
The headlining Sunday major in partypoker’s weekly lineup is the $215 Heavyweight: The Title Fight with $250,000 guaranteed. The 1,050 entrants fell short of the guarantee.
The win went to “DBergllin” from Malta for $43,000. The runner-up was Canada’s “chadi6969” for $30,800. Third-place “RingelStink” was also from Canada, collecting $20,375. Also, in ninth, Canadian “ALLYOURLOOT” earned $2,550.
Heavyweight: The Main Event
The lower-priced major is the $109 Heavyweight: The Main Event with $150,000 guaranteed. With 1,341 entries, the guarantee was missed.
From Finland, “nicekitty” found the win and earned $25,455. Canadian “framicaiii” took seventh place for $2,760.
With a higher buy-in of $530, the High Roller guarantees $100,000 and that was missed by the 197 entries this week.
“MentulaMagna” from the Netherlands was the winner for $19,636.20. In fourth place, Canada’s “stcath1” earned $7,733.30.
