PlayNow Set to Award $500,000 in Prizes at Fall Poker Championship
The 2018 Fall PlayNow Poker Championship is set to roll in a couple weeks' time at Winnipeg's Club Regent Casino. The five-day event will award an estimated $500,000 worth of prizes over four no-limit hold'em tournaments.
"We hope to build on the success of our spring edition of the Poker Championship and reach for new records in attendance," said Mo Shulu, poker manager at Club Regent. He added that they are welcoming players from coast to coast with a special promotion that awards a $50 gas card to all out-of-province players to help with expenses.
As well, poker travelers can use the code "poker championship” at Canad Inns properties for a special rate for the Championship. Shulu says, "We want to be known a poker destination," and has added promotions to help encourage that.
Action in the series kicks off on Wednesday, September 5 with satellite day. For $120, players will have a chance to compete for tickets to the $1,100 Main Event, which starts Saturday, September 8. In addition to the multi-table satellite, single-table satellites will also run daily when there is interest.
The first event of the series runs Thursday, September 6. The $600 buy-in gets players 15,000 chips to play 30-minute levels, with late registration open through the start of Level 6. The field will be capped at 280 players, so make sure you're in early.
Friday, September 7, is bounty day in Winnipeg. The $300 buy-in puts $50 aside as a reward for knocking players out. With 7,000 chips and 20-minute blind levels, the bounty event is always a free-wheeling, fast-shooting affair with action all around.
The Main Event is what everyone is interested in, and Day 1 begins at noon on Saturday, September 8. For $1,100, players get a stack of 20,000 to play 45-minute levels of no-limit hold'em. Players will play 15 levels on Saturday, before the survivors bag their chips to return for Day 2 on Sunday. As with all the tournaments, registration is capped at 280 players.
While the Main Event survivors play down to a winner on Sunday, September 9, the last chance tournament goes at 1 p.m. Players get 8,000 chips for their $400 buy-in. Late registration is open till the start of Level 6, which will allow players busting out of Day 2 of the Main to jump in as well.
In addition to the prize pool money, PlayNow is putting up a prize for Player of the Series. The player who amasses the most points through the four events in the series will receive a full package for the 2019 Spring PlayNow Poker Championship. Back in April of this year, Shaner Yo took down the Main Event late Sunday night, and also secured the Player of the Series award, so expect to see Yo here defending his title.
