Every Sunday, millions of dollars are paid out to poker players around the world when sites like 888poker, PokerStars, and partypoker host the week’s biggest and best online tournaments. Each week, we take a look at how players from Canada fared in the Sunday majors.
This Sunday, August 05, 2018, "uwannagobud" had the top Canadian result. They made it to heads-up play in partypoker's Sunday Super High Roller-SHR, grabbing $34,337.50 for second place. Here’s the full report on major Canadian results from this Sunday:
Sunday Majors on 888poker
The $100,000 Sunday Mega Deep
The usual premier Sunday tournament on 888poker boasts a guarantee of $100,000 for a $215 buy-in. This week saw 331 entries with 164 rebuys creating a total prize pool of $100,000.
This week just a single Canadian made it all the way to the final table. Parker “888tonkaaaa” Talbot managed to get seventh place, worth $2,750, while the winner of the tournament was “TonyCipolla9” of Germany who won $19,250 for the victory.
The $80,000 Whale
The Whale is 888poker’s high-roller tournament of the day with a buy-in of $1,050 along with a $80,000 guarantee. This tournament saw a total of 55 entries with 22 rebuys to create a total prize pool of $80,000.
This week one Canuck found a spot at the final table. “guydeet39” made it heads up but had to settle for second place worth $18,000. The winner of the tournament was “MisterN411” of the Netherlands who won $28,000 for the victory.
Sunday Majors on PokerStars
The biggest tournaments of the day get started on PokerStars every week with the $55 Sunday Marathon featuring a $100,000 prize pool guarantee. This week’s edition had 2,650 entries creating a prize pool worth $132,500.
There was only one player from our nation who managed to make the final table. Kevin “morans350” Gibson from Grimsby, Ontario won $9,057.01 for third place. “Rebozeio” from Brazil managed to outlast the field though to win $18,393.07.
The $215 Sunday Warm-Up heats up the action with a $175,000 guarantee. After late registration there were a total of 1,071 who bought into the tournament to create a total prize pool of $214,200.
Of the final nine players, two players were sporting the maple leaf, but they were the first two players to exit. “AceSpades11” ended up in ninth to collect $2,482.53 while "Ewokwat" managed one spot better for $3,452.71. Rens “Rens02” Feenstra from the Netherlands took the victory, collecting $34,755.90.
Moving on to the lowest-priced tournament that could be considered a Sunday major, the $11 Sunday Storm is the best value you’ll find in online poker. Despite the tiny buy-in, the prize pool is set at a guaranteed $150,000. The tournament this week saw 23,098 players enter, creating a prize pool of $226,360.40.
Canada was shut out of the final table Storm this week. Peruvian player “oLi069” took down first place worth $20,888.71.
Sunday High Roller
The highest-priced regular Sunday major on PokerStars is the Sunday High Roller with a hefty buy-in of $2,100 and guaranteeing $125,000 in prizes. With 97 entries this week, the total prize pool ended up at $194,000.
Canada had one player at the High Roller final table this week. "YRWTHMELTHR" took down fifth place money worth $15,123.91. The winner was “kitaec80” from Russia who outlasted them all to collect $45,976.12.
This is the most coveted online poker tournament in the world with a buy-in of just $215 but a $1,000,000 guarantee. This time around, entries came to 5,875 to create a total prize pool of $1,175,000.
No Canadians made this final table. The win, worth $158,644.59, went to “pyszalek” from the Poland.
Mini Sunday Million
Giving the Sunday Million feel for a tenth of the buy-in is the weekly Mini Sunday Million where the buy-in is $22 with a $175,000 guaranteed. This time around there were a total of 10,787 entries to create a total of $215,740 up for grabs.
No Canadians managed to crack the final nine in this one. The player with all the chips at the end was “DOOOOITTTT” from Mexico for a score of $25,826.54.
With a buy-in of $530, the Sunday 500 guarantees $100,000. A total of 335 entries beat the guarantee, coming in at $167,500 to play for.
Three players with the maple leaf made the final table. "patrice023" ended up in sixth place for $6,680.31 but two Canadians ended up heads up for the title. Montreal's "OLD TIME GIN" and "n3xD" made a two-way deal that saw the former take $25,094.10 for second while the latter took $29,043.20 for first.
The Sunday majors conclude on PokerStars with the $215 Sunday Supersonic — a six-max hyper-speed tournament with a $125,000 guarantee. This week a total of 768 entries pressed their luck to create a total prize pool of $157,255.68.
Canada was shut out of the final six for this one. The winner was Cassio Pisapia "cassiopak" de Almeida Kiles from Brazil, collecting $26,518.27.

Monster #51-High: $100k Gtd (6-Max)
As the Monster series winds down, players had a chance to play for $100,000 guaranteed for just $27.50 in Monster #51-High: $100k Gtd (6-Max). A total of 3,788 entries meant the prize pool stayed at $100,000.
"Thirst4First" was the only Canadian to make the final six, coming fifth for $3,331. The player who took it all down was "neqomaso8888" from Switzerland, who pocketed $12,314 for the win.
Sunday Super High Roller-SHR
The Sunday Super High Roller-SHR gave some high roller action on partypoker with a $150,000 guaranteed prize pool for $2,600 buy in. This week, 67 entries generated a total pool of $167,500
Canada had three places at this final table. "ALLYOURLOOT" was fifth for a score of $11,725 while "InthisCity" made third worth $23,450. "uwannagobud" made it to heads up play, but settled for second place money of $34,337.50. The winner of the event was “maniakboy” from the United Kingdom for a score of $51,087.50.
Sunday High Roller-HR
The Sunday High Roller-HR features a $1,050 buy-in and a prize pool guarantee of $100,000. With 106 entrants this week, the prize pool came to $106,000.
The win went to Sweden’s “HellmuthTheGr8” for $28,216.90 as Canada wasn't able to find a spot at the final table.
Sunday Bounty Hunter-HR
The Sunday Bounty Hunter-HR kicks off the bounty events. It has a $1,050 buy-in with $150,000 guaranteed. This week there were 162 entrants to create a prize pool of $165,240 with $84,240 in the bounty pool.
Two Canadians made the final nine of this one. "ro0b1ckne11" took seventh for $2,597.67 plus $2,892.50 for knocking six players out while "KERRMODE made it to second with nine bounties worth $8,039.69 in addition to the $12,040.65 main prize. The win, worth $16,362.86 (plus $17,578.44 for seven bounties), went to the Brazil’s Diego “EmilioSurita” Bittar.
Sunday Big Bounty Hunter-HR
The Sunday Big Bounty Hunter-HR gives the bounty hunt feel for a lower price point. For $525, players are guaranteed a $100,000 prize pool, including bounties. This week 215 entries brought the prize pool to $110,187.50, with $56,437.50 devoted to bounties.
Canada saw two players make the final nine in this one. "BaxterCroaked1 took sixth place for $2,275.50 plus five bounties for an extra $3,035.17 but the winner was Canadian “FkTheseGuysBro" who bested the field to take home $10,959.67 plus another $11,027.16 for 6 bounties.
Sunday Big Bounty Hunter-H
The Sunday Big Bounty Hunter-H gives the bounty hunt feel for a lower price point. For $105, players are guaranteed a $100,000 prize pool, including bounties. This week 922 entries brought the prize pool to $100,000, with $49,788 devoted to bounties.
Ontario's Doug "dlanger610" Lang was the only Canadian at the final table, coming fifth for $1,983.37 plus nine bounties for $1,482.66. The winner was “Antipapyrus who bested the field to take home $8,777.65 plus another $6,418.41 for 15 bounties.
Monster #52-High: $200k Gtd (Championship Event)
As the Monster series winds down, the series lived up to it's name with Monster #52-High: $200k Gtd (Championship Event). For $33, players played for a guaranteed prize pool of $200,000. A total of 6,742 entries meant the prize pool was $202,260.
Two Canadians made the final nine. "AllOfEmEfit" finished eighth for $1,858.76 while "Speed_boum" was the only Canadian to make the final six, coming third for $13,784.01. The winner was "AllFallsDown" from Germany, who pocketed $30,689.13 for the win.
Sunday Bounty Hunter-H
The final bounty this week was Sunday Bounty Hunter-H with a $215 buy in and a $150,000 guarantee. This week 712 entries made the prize pool a total of $150,000 with $75,472 for bounties.
"Navins9" was the only Canadian to make the final nine, finishing seventh for $1,088.10 as well as four knockouts worth $543.24. The win went to “jarumen” from the United Kingdom for $13,303.77 plus $11,285.36 for 16 knockouts.
