Estimated $240K in Prizes at 2018 SIGA Poker Championship in October

SIGA Poker Championship in Saskatoon Saskatchewan

Every year, as the rest of the country is preparing for Thanksgiving and descending into pumpkin spice and Halloween madness, the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority puts on the SIGA Poker Championship. Held at the scenic Dakota Dunes Casino in Whitecap First Nation, 20 minutes south of Saskatoon, the 2018 edition is the seventh running of the fall tournament that is fast becoming one of Saskatchewan's hottest poker events.

The poker action gets going on October 5 with the first of two Day 1s for this prestigious event, and a second batch of players get a chance to find a bag in Saturday's Day 1b. The $675 buy-in gets players 30,000 chips to play 30-minute blind levels. Both Day 1s end after 16 levels of play, or when 15% of the starting field remains, and all players who still have chips at the end of play will bag them up to return to the felt for Sunday's Day 2 final day (October 7).

For the 2017 edition of this tournament, 380 entries created a prize pool of $215,000. Local player Trevor Norlander took down the 2017 top prize of $39,345 as well as the included ticket to the 2018 World Series of Poker Main Event after he powered his way through a field that included past winners like Waylon Gibson, Chris Bowers, and Leo Leclerc.

The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority hasn't forgotten about out-of-town players, either. In order to help cut the costs of the trip to their event, they've teamed up with some local hotels for special deals for tournament players. The following hotels all have deals for tournament players using the supplied codes.

  • Four Points by Sheraton (Saskatoon South) 306-933-9889
$119/night under the group code SJ04AA
