partypoker's MILLIONS Online Breaks Record with $21M Prize Pool

As the modern game of poker has evolved, the games just keep getting bigger and bigger. This week, the biggest tournament in online poker history ran on partypoker. The $5,300 partypoker MILLIONS Online ran five Day 1 starting flights that ended up drawing 4,367 entries combining for the largest prize pool ever offered online.

Before any chips were even in play, partypoker had big plans with a guaranteed prize pool of $20,000,000 as well as a guarantee that the top three prizes would all top $1,000,000. In the end, the guarantee was left in the dust as a whopping $21,835,000 ended up in the kitty — more than any other online event in the past.

When Day 2 began, 687 players were still in the hunt for one of the 500 playing spots. The minimum cash spot was set at nearly $11,000, just over double the buy-in, but all the players had their sights set on the top prizes. Everyone who made the final 20 was guaranteed more than $100,000, and several Canadians managed to hit that mark.

Mississauga's "marlin5555" was the first player to collect a $100K paycheck, pocketing $103,175 for 20th spot. "Sharknebuleux" made it to 15th spot with a maple leaf on their back, for a score of $136,468.75 while Christopher "Ad_Finem" Kruk just missed the final table with an 11th place finish worth $163,762.50. Canada's top result went to "COL_Moutarde" for their sixth-place finish worth $655,050.

At the end of it all, it came down to a heads-up battle between Pim “ForMatherRussia” de Goede from Malta and the Netherlands' Manuel “Sheparentao” Ruivo. The two players cut a deal that gave de Goede $2,309,994 for second while Ruivo took the win for $2,329,943 in addition to the partypoker MILLIONS Online title.
