The Weekly Review is back to recap the weeks top poker headlines on PokerNews Canada. This week Kristen Bicknell was named the top Canadian tournament player along with the newest Canadian to win over 100k. It may have been from over a week ago, but still a feel good story, PokerNews and PokerNews Canada reporter Aleeyah Jadavji booked a coveted Platinum pass to the PokerStars Players Championship in the Bahamas by winning the pass given to a poker media personality.

Bicknell Books Top Canadian Tournament Player Honours

As the year flips to 2019, the past years tournament schedule has come to a completion, and with that, the Global Poker Index (GPI) rankings have been finalized. [PLAYER="kristen-bicknell"]Kristen Bicknell[PLAYER] has been named this years top Canadian tournament player, just ahead of Mike Leah. Bicknell also earned the top female tournament poker player of the year honours as well. With 28 cashes including one win, and seven top ten finishes, she eclipsed over $1,000,000 in tournament earnings on the year.

New Years Eve 2018 will be a day to remember for Canada's most accomplished poker player. Daniel Negreanu popped the question to girlfriend Amanda Leatherman during a party with friends and family as the year turned over. Their relationship started in 2010 when Negreanu and Leatherman dated and Negreanu thought she was "the one" during that time. With Leatherman returning to Vegas to be the host of PokerGO and Facebook Stadium's Friday Night Poker, the two's relationship picked up where it left off, madly in love.

Canadians Qualifiers Looking for Glory at the PokerStars Players Championship

Back in 2017 PokerStars announced the PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC), a $25,000 buy-in rake-free tournament with over $8 million in seats given out by the online poker site. Dubbed the "Platinum Pass", a $25,000 seat to the event that takes place during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) along with an additional $5,00) in spending money was handed out to a slew of different qualifiers. As the tournament gets underway, there are twelve Canadians that will be free rolling the event as part of winning a Platinum Pass.

Canadians Finish Second and Third in Sunday Million

This weeks online poker headlines were mostly take from PokerStars, which had it's Winter Series in full swing. The top spots for the week in terms of earnings went to "Gossimer007" and "pisky16" who took third and second spots respectively in the $215 Sunday Million. "Gossimer007" took home $74,452.30 for third while "pisky16" collected $106,092.36 for the runner up finish, along with being the top Canadian earner on the day.

Aleeyah Jadavji Off to the Bahamas

PokersNews and PokerNews Canada reporter Aleeyah Jadavji was one of the final players to get some good news from PokerStars. She will be off to the Bahamas to play in the $25,000 buy-in PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) which gets underway on January 6. Aleeyah was chosen from a lineup of other poker media personalities including Kevin Mathers, Lance Bradley, Robbie Strazynski, and Nick Jones as the poker media representative.

She has planned to give 5% percent of her winnings to REG Charity along with giving a small percentage free roll to the other finalists.

Aleeyah also undertook a weight loss bet, which eventually would have to be put on hold as she battled Stage 2 abdominal cancer. Never straying from her positive outlook through radiation treatments along with surgery to remove the tumour before the end of 2018. It will be easy to cheer for Aleeyah at the PSPC this January.
