Day 1 of the $1,100 Main Event is in the books at the PlayNow Poker Championship in Winnipeg, MB. The tournament gathered 163 entries to create a prize pool of $163,000. The tournament will pay out the top 17 spots seeing a min-cash of $2,586 going to the first person who is eliminated once the money bubble bursts while the winner will receive $43,740 along with a trophy and a gold championship ring.

It looked as if Erick Casselman was going to end the day as the chipleader but on the second last hand of the day, Ferosh Tailor took the honour of finishing as the chip leader. He had a massive double up against Joe Chan after a flop of {j-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Spades}. Chan flopped two pairs holding {j-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and had bet 55,000 on the flop. Tailor had other ideas though and shoved all in holding {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}, for a set. Chan made the call and couldn't improve his hand to beat Tailor. Tailor ended the day with 547,000.

Only 20 players of the 163 entries remain as the action kicks off at 11:00 am local time. The tournament is only three eliminations away from being in the money. Other players to finish the day strong were Dennis Rodriguez (331,000), Erick Casselman (304,000), Harold Applebaum (303,000), and Chris Closas (201,000), who all bagged a top five stack at the end of the day.

One more player to watch out for tomorrow is Jeff Harrison, who is still in the hunt to win back-to-back Main Events as he won the Spring edition of the PlayNow Poker Championship for $45,084. He was also one of the 28 players who won his way to the Main Event via the $120 Satellite on Wednesday night.

PokerNews Canada will be live on the floor of the PlayNow Poker Championship providing live-coverage and photography for Day 2 of the Main Event. Stay tuned to the blog for all the news and updates.
